Now retired and in demand to play around the county, I have been looking for useful repertoire; music which I can use on the small instruments I now encounter. Some have action problems, off notes, awkward pedal boards and a of lack reeds and mixtures: nearly all have kick swell pedals. Whilst I have plenty of pieces which are useful, I have been playing some of them for over 50 years and many for 30 or 40. I need new ideas!
As well as writing new music myself the Internet has been a great source of fresh repertoire. James Flores has a YouTube channel on which he posts Virtual Vespers on Wednesdays. These videos have drawn my attention to new works – often in a contemplative style – such as those by James Michael Stevens, Paul Fey and Graham Twist. Most recently I have discovered and enjoyed some short pieces by Simon Peberdy
